John Held, Jr. (1889-1958) was a prominent cartoonist and illustrator during the Jazz Age of the 1920s. An artistic prodigy, he sold his first cartoon at the age of 15 to Life magazine. In 1919, on a trip through the Adirondack Mountains, the Utah-born artist painted this view of Blue Mountain, at the center of the Adirondack Park, looking northeast from Blue Mountain Lake.
